Rainbow Fleet Resource and Referral’s Early Education Center to feature CARE Center’s body safety book at community early literacy event
OKLAHOMA CITY, June 2, 2022 – Oklahoma children will learn to ROAR at a free community event hosted by Rainbow Fleet Resource and Referral’s Early Education Center at 10 a.m., June 10, in partnership with The CARE Center, a child advocacy center dedicated to preventing child abuse through education and treatement for victims.
At the event, CARE Center CEO Stacy McNeiland will read “Rex Finds His ROAR,” a book that teaches body safety to kids ages 4 to 8.
The event will take place outdoors at Rainbow Fleet’s Rotary Club OKC Community Playground, 1105 N.W. 45th St. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. The event is open to the public.
“Body safety and empowering young children to assert themselves to protect themselves is so important,” said Rainbow Fleet CEO Carri Hicks. “We are proud to join with The CARE Center to provide these vital resources to the community.”
“Rex Finds His ROAR” is part of The CARE Center’s education program, which has now been shared with more than 50,000 Oklahoma children. The program’s interactive lessons are designed to be taught in a classroom or group setting. The ROAR program was created by McNeiland.
“Empowering kids at an early age makes an impact in the community. We will never know how many children stopped abuse from happening because of the lessons learned through ROAR,” said McNeiland.
The “ROAR” acronym stands for “Remember privates are private,” “Okay to say ‘no,” “Always talk about secrets,” and “Raise your voice and tell someone.”
Watermelon will be served during the event. Participants are asked to observe social distancing.
