Goodbye Lawn, Hello Habitat: Designing Outdoor Spaces for Children and Wildlife
This keynote session will explore the basics of transforming a conventional outdoor play area into an engaging, sustainable outdoor habitat that fosters learning and development for children. Learn practical strategies for designing habitats that are healthy for young children, rich in biodiversity, support local wildlife, and offer opportunities for hands-on learning. Gain inspiration and actionable steps for integrating environmental stewardship into child care programs, making your outdoor area a place where children can thrive through play and exploration.

Let's go on a nature walk! Learn to look beyond fenced play areas and expand your view of the outdoor spaces available to children in your child care program. Gain strategies and ideas identifying pockets of nature in everyday places and guiding children on exploratory walks in their communities to discover plants, animals, and natural features in various surroundings. The session will also cover safety protocols and best practices for venturing outside of licensed areas.
